The pre-released prototype version of Bendy and the Ink Machine was the oldest known prototype build for the game, different from the prototype demo which was released on February 10, 2017. This version was created when Bendy and the Ink Machine started its development circa January 2017, prior to the game's reveal trailer on January 30th. Although not publicly released, the prototype's short footage was revealed in Joey Drew Studios Inc's Bendyversary celebration video on February 10, 2025.

Overview

This build resembles the version shown in the prototype demo, but contains notable pre-made changes:

  • Henry Stein's desk was initially made as a testing room for the game's graphic style.[1] Although no small corridor that connects to the desk room was implemented, making Henry's desk a separated location.
  • The Old Studio was much smaller, with the main lobby only available.
  • The "Concept Bendy" head, a projector, filming reels, and wooden boards are the only models added.
  • The main lobby was nearly empty and bare-bones, with no Bendy cutout, dresser, wooden chairs, doors, a wooden crate, ceiling lamps, cluttered papers, and animation desk.
  • The three filming reels (the pre-Joey Drew Studios 'logo') were slightly larger in scale and the black filming tapes are missing.
  • The "Concept Bendy" head spins at the corner, where it will later be replaced with the animation desk in the demo's release.
  • The corridor entrance to the office hallway ends at the wall.
  • The door next to the projector was not there.
  • The wall's paneling-like board from the left-hand side of the main lobby has multiple smaller boards.
  • The wooden board was found on the floor, right next to the table. It was later replaced with a chair in the demo's release.
  • The "Sheep Songs!" poster in Boris' room was originally a "The Dancing Demon" poster.
