"You may think I've gone... But I'm still here!" |
Bertrum Piedmont is a caricature based on the Bendy Land founder of the same name, represented as a giant head placed inside a carousel-like ride.
History
Origins
How this form of Bertrum was brought into the ink realm is unknown. However, his head was at some point placed into a carousel ride and he managed to gain control of it. The carousel ride would've likely been purposed for Bendy Land.
Carousel fight
As Henry goes for the second power switch for the Haunted House, he walks into Storage 9's Attraction Storage and turns on the audio log on a table. There's a wire connected to this audio log, to some speakers around the room. The large carousel in the room has its lights turn on as Bertrum continues talking. The audio log of Bertie is angered by Joey Drew, and the fact that he just wants to "throw him out". The carousel arms begin moving as he mentions this. He then yells out that despite what Joey thought, he's still in the studio, and suddenly a door opens on the carousel, revealing the giant head of Bertrum Piedmont.
The arms begin spinning around, attempting to attack Henry. One of the arms breaks the table that holds the audio log, revealing an axe for Henry to use. Soon, Bertrum causes the arms to collapse briefly. Henry can use this time to chop off the joint screws on the collapsed arms. Once all four joint screws are removed, an arm is broken, and Bertrum gets any other arms back up as he continues to rotate. Other arms will collapse as the fight goes on, and each time Henry must remove the joint screws. After each and every arm is removed, Bertrum visibly panics from his lack of arms, but eventually gives in. His head stops moving in defeat, and the doors shut. The second power switch becomes available after this.
Pulled apart
Sometime between Wilson taking control of the ink realm, Bertrum was stripped of his confines in the ride by the Keepers and left to rot inside of Wilson's prison,[2] locked up as Wilson thought Bertrum was a threat to his plans.
He has seemingly been there for a long time, as he has moss and mushrooms growing over top of him.

Strategy
To defeat Bertrum, Henry must go to the table where the audio log was to find the axe and avoid Bertrum's swinging arms by hugging close to the edges. There is a Bendy statue in the boss-fight room, so the player can't leave until he is defeated. Once Henry finds the axe, he must wait for Bertrum to do his slam attack and then strike at the bolts on whichever arms he chooses. Henry has only a brief moment to strike these bolts, but with careful timing, he can hit at least two at a time. Once he eliminates all four bolts on one arm, that arm breaks off. Bertrum becomes more hostile and gets faster each time he loses an arm. Henry must destroy all four arms in order to defeat Bertrum.
Alternatively, Henry can use empty Bacon Soup cans (discovered later on after pulling the second power switch) to fight Bertrum, however, it can be quite difficult to aim the bolts correctly without wasting any. When the boss battle begins, it is recommended not to pick up the axe while carrying the empty Bacon Soup cans, otherwise, it will immediately cause all empty Bacon Soup cans to drop, aborting a chance to trigger a later secret.
Also, when Bertrum slams down his arms, Henry can ride in the cars by pressing E. This can be used for Henry's advantage when fighting Bertrum.

Behind the scenes
Bertrum is an antagonist who first appeared fourth chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine as a boss, and later appeared in the post-fifth chapter epilogue as a cameo in Joey Drew's storyboard. He later appeared as a minor character in the fourth chapter of Bendy and the Dark Revival.
Other information
In Bendy and the Ink Machine, Bertrum's head texture map file reveals to have a missing detail on his left ear, which cannot be seen normally in-game. In Pascal Cleroux's video of Bertrum's head model turnaround preview, Bertrum still appears to have a left ear texture.
