Prototype builds

Pre-release prototype

The Bendy and the Ink Machine pre-release prototype is oldest known prototype build for the game from January 2017. While not publicly released, it was showcased in the Bendyversary 2025 celebration video on Joey Drew Studios Inc's YouTube channel.

Prototype demo

The Bendy and the Ink Machine prototype demo is the first publicly released version of the game, most known for its intentionally short and basic design, along with unusual early versions of the character models (including "Papa" Boris and Alpha Bendy).

Pre-updated builds by chapter

Chapter 2: The Old Song release

The first pre-updated build was patched on April 18, 2017 for the DLC release of Chapter 2: The Old Song. The first chapter was added with new features and changes, including a couple of new rooms, Bendy's glove redesign, an introduction of Bacon Soup, and "Alpha Bendy" updated into "Beta Bendy".

Chapter 3: Rise and Fall release

The second pre-updated build was patched on September 28, 2017 for the DLC release of Chapter 3: Rise and Fall.

Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders release

The third pre-updated build was patched on April 30, 2018 for the DLC release of Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders. This version is identical to the game's final cut, aside from unimplemented features such as the internecion challenge and the Seeing Tool messages for Chapter 1 to 4, along with the fourth chapter's post-credit image which was ultimately replaced.

Other builds

Hello Bendy

Main article: Hello Bendy

Hello Bendy was a crossover event between Hello Neighbor and Bendy and the Ink Machine for Halloween 2017, which was released on October 27, 2017 and ended on October 31, 2017. It was patched for the game's post-Chapter 3 release version. In this version, the Ink Demon (along with Sammy Lawrence in Chapter 2) was replaced by Theodore Peterson, the main antagonist of the Hello Neighbor series.
