Lurker
"But they don't need to fear him! No! If they just make sure to feed him on time, Big Steve won't ever hurt a fly!" |
The Lurker, also known as Big Steve, is a giant and friendly ink creature that is the ink realm's version of Steve McGregor.
History
Origins
At some point, Steve McGregor was transformed from a muscular man to a tall, bloated ink creature. He later made friends with an unknown individual, who learned the Lurker's eating habits. The Lurker also managed to acquire food from the Little Devil Lounge, and took a liking to it, especially ink hearts. After Wilson Arch and the Keepers invaded the ink realm, he was captured and placed into a large cell, because of his remarkable strength and size. The Lurker's unknown friend wrote about how he wouldn't cause harm just so long as he was fed, placing the note in his chamber.
Discovering the giant
After Audrey Drew decides to take a quick detour in the Gent Workshop, she'll end up in the Lurker's lair. A roar will be heard outside of the chamber, and if she investigates further, the Lurker will reveal himself. The Lurker won't harm Audrey just so long as Audrey doesn't harm him. He will simply stand still in the chamber, blocking the large doorway he came from.
If Audrey decides to backtrack all the way to the Little Devil Lounge, she can grab the ink heart and return it to the Lurker. He will move away from the doorway and sit down, beginning to consume his meal. Audrey can then flip a lever and go through a doorway and acquire the final pipe schematic for her Gent Pipe.
Regardless of what Audrey does, he will eventually leave his chamber after Audrey is taken by Wilson. He is presumably helped by Tom and Allison Angel.
The final fight
After Audrey had become one with the Ink Demon, they become Beast Bendy and she makes her way through several dark laboratory halls until she reaches a room she cannot continue through. Allison suddenly appears, and Audrey speaks out to her. Allison instantly recognizes her and yells for Tom to "make them some trouble". Suddenly, the Lurker lifts up a large metal door, revealing Tom riding on his back. After this, the Lurker fights alongside Audrey, killing the Lost Ones and Searchers around him. He is lastly seen in the final room, pinning a Lost One and a Piper down.
Characteristics
Physical appearance
Aside of his giant appearance, The Lurker's body is made up of large amount of ink that flows throughout its whole body, there are also eight objects stuck into him. He sports no eyes and has a large elongated mouth that extends to his neck, having two giant hands and two stubby feet.
Personality
Despite his giant size, the Lurker is mainly nice. He only attacks when he's attacked, or is told to attack. He becomes even less harmful when he is fed.
Abilities
The Lurker's strength is his main ability. He is able to crush creatures with ease. He can also pull open large metal doors, which cannot be broken by even Beast Bendy. He is also able to cause ink creatures to explode into ink piles with a simple swipe.
Behind the scenes
The Lurker is a minor deuteragonist in Bendy and the Dark Revival, debuting in Chapter 4: Factory of Horrors, and having a slightly larger role in Chapter 5: The Dark Revival.
Development
The Lurker was originally supposed to be a brute-type enemy that would roam around the same way Lost Ones do. The developers decided that this was unnecessary as the random Ink Demon encounters already provided a way for players to be on edge while traversing the studio. So, he was instead changed into an unlikely ally.[2]
He was also quickly shown off in one of Bendy and the Dark Revival's trailers in a room with pipes and valves, roaring. Since he is described to be planned as a random enemy, this was likely not the only room the Lurker could've appeared in and it was simply used to tease viewers of the creature. The plank textures were also different to his current ones.[3]
Other information
The Lurker is currently one of the only two ink creatures in the Gent Workshop to not be involved with Bendy and the Ink Machine's original story. The other one is Heidi, as confirmed in her Archives description.[2]
The Lurker's unnamed friend is believed to be Heidi, considering the fact that they write/speak in a similar way, and the fact that Heidi moves freely in the workshop meaning she's likely encountered Big Steve. This is not confirmed, however.
