This article is about a robotic counterpart of Bendy. For other uses, see Bendy (disambiguation).

"Only thing that bothers me is that mechanical demon in the corner. Bertrum's been working on it for a month now. Says it will walk someday and maybe dance. All it does now is give me the creeps. I swear, when my back's turned... that thing's movin'."
Lacie Benton commenting about the mechanical Bendy.[2]

The mechanical Bendy is one of Bertrum Piedmont's creations for Bendy Land. Designed after Joey Drew Studios' cartoon mascot, it was planned to be a robotic mascot for the guests visiting the theme park, but it was left ultimately unfinished and discarded alongside the other animatronics due to security concerns.

History

Creation and cancelation

As Bendy Land was being built, Bertrum began working on the mechanical Bendy, placing it on a workbench in Research & Design. It was worked on for at least one month. He hoped to turn it into one of the attractions, planning for it to walk and possibly dance in the future. Lacie Benton believed that it was moving behind her back while she worked.[2]

During the production, Joey Drew wished for the robots to be able to uniquely connect with each park goer. Even though he was frustrated by such a request for simple machinery, Bertrum implemented a specialized camera to the prototypes that could recognize and distinguish basic shapes, to trick Joey into believing the machines behaved as he envisioned. However, once the algorithm of the robots recognized someone, they would indefinitely follow them in an act similar to that of hunting. Due to this major security risk, Bertrum shut the robots down and the project was discontinued. The animatronics were then discarded and stored in the Bendyland Warehouse.[3]

In the ink realm

As Henry heads for the second switch that helps power the Haunted House, mechanical Bendy is seen lying in two halves. It is simply a decoration here. Lacie's audio log is also seen in this room, providing Henry with some information on the mechanical demon.

At some point, one of its arms were taken, and it was attached to Tom, replacing his missing one.

Characteristics

Physical appearance

The mechanical Bendy looks like a taller, more humanoid, and heavily mechanical version of Bendy, split into two pieces. Rather than being a complete shade of black, most of its body is a dark brown color. It has ink splatters and smears all over its body. Its shoes look much like Bendy's, with the vamp part of the shoes being hemispheres. The hips (still attached to the legs) have multiple wires sticking out, with the same going for the other half. Its arms only have one hand attached, the hand looking much like one of Bendy's gloves. Its head has only one part of the Bendy mask on, with the other half lying on the workbench with it. The half that lacks the mask reveals a much wider grin, and a large black hole above it. The half also reveals a more mechanical part of the face.

In Bendy and the Ink Machine, the robot's head matches the same skull size as a human being, but it was bigger in Bendy: Lone Wolf.

Behind the scenes

The mechanical Bendy is a decoration that debuts in the fourth chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine. It later returns as an enemy in Bendy: Lone Wolf.[3]

Development

Prior to the release of Bendy and the Ink Machine, the workbench also had a second bit of text seen at the edge, showing the word "NEVER!" This is never seen in-game.[4] However, what was still visible in-game is another writing scratched into the workbench, near its missing arm, simply displaying the word "ARM?" as a comment to the part's disappearance.

Other information

In the fourth chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine, near the animatronic, a secret message is viewable through the Seeing Tool, simply stating "IT NEVER MOVES".

In the epilogue of Bendy and the Ink Machine, a sketch of a fully assembled version of the Bendy animatronic is seen in Joey Drew's apartment, but it makes no physical appearance.

The animatronic seems to be heavily inspired by the Five Nights at Freddy's series, shown by its general appearance, as well as Lacie's audio log implies that the animatronic might have the ability to move.
