Phantoms of the Machine
The Phantoms of the Machine are spectral creatures that haunt the darkest parts of the ink realm. They are souls of humans trapped between worlds (likely the ink realm and the void), causing them to become inky ghosts instead of Lost Ones and leaving themselves immortal and thus unable to return to the Dark Puddles.[1]
Characteristics
Physical appearance
The phantoms are shadowy pitch-black entities that appear in various shapes and forms, mostly bipedal in shape with glowing orange eyes.
Intelligence
They usually prefer darkness over light, drifting in thicker shadows of the abandoned areas as they passively stalk after other dwellers that stumble across their habitats. The phantoms are mostly silent but they can also emit some noises like nearly inaudible whispering and even wailing during the night.
Behind the scenes
The phantoms were first mentioned in "The Ghosts" memo, which was found in the second chapter of Bendy and the Dark Revival.[1]
The Ghost entity appeared in Bendy: Secrets of the Machine since the August 8, 2025 update patch. It whispers "The Ghosts" memo in reverse, revealing that the entity belongs to the same species.[2]
