Skeleton
The skeleton is a background cartoon character who appeared in Joey Drew Studios' cartoon short Tombstone Picnic.
Description
Physical appearance
They are a human skeleton in cartoon style, with bones that make rattling sounds. Their torso is only visible from throughout the cartoon. Unlike most of Joey Drew Studios' characters, the skeleton has eye-sockets instead of pie eyes and are very expressive, as seen when the skeleton winks at Bendy.
Personality
Although very little is known about their personality, the skeleton is a playful trickster when it comes to meeting people at the graveyard, including Bendy.
Cartoon appearances
- Tombstone Picnic (1929) - The skeleton appeared in the early start of the cartoon, when the skeleton's hand grabs Bendy's ankle, not letting go until they pop out from the ground. The skeleton lets go of Bendy and winks at him, before going back to their "grave" by pulling the ground over itself like a blanket. The skeleton appeared again, hiding from a gravestone with Bendy and then both sees each other in shock, making Bendy run away from the skeleton.
Behind the scenes
The skeleton appeared in the animated short Tombstone Picnic, which was released on August 11, 2017 and re-released on January 7, 2019.
The skeleton's clips from the Tombstone Picnic short were used for Bendy and the Ink Machine, in Chapter 2 and 3. In Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders, the skeleton appeared as one of the cardboard pop-ups for the Haunted House ride.
Inspirations
The skeleton may be a reminiscent to the skeletons that appear in the early-20th century cartoons, such as the 1929 Silly Symphony short The Skeleton Dance.
Other information
The skeleton appeared in the Crack-up Comics Collection book's intro page for the syndicated comic strips, however they were never seen anywhere in such comics. The skeleton also appeared in a comic strip based on Tombstone Picnic, which was only a test comic.
