The Bendy costume[1] are prop suits based on Joey Drew Studios' mascot Bendy, designed for part of the attraction at Bendy Land. They can be also found in some places within the ink realm, with one functioning antagonistically.

History

In the real world

It appears that the Bendy costumes were designed for Bendyland as an attraction. Later, they were drawn into the ink realm by Joey Drew, like most things in there.

In the ink realm

The sketched forms of the Bendy costume can be found at few places within the ink realm, such as the costume closet from Storage 9[2] and the Drawing Board.[3]

A lone Bendy costume can be also found in the Drawing Board, but seems to move on its own. When the explorer of the Drawing Board gets a golden can of Bacon Soup, they can use it to make the costume to explode into a yellow explosion and resetting the cycle. If they hold on onto the Golden can they can bring it back inside when now they will find the costume in the corridor angered, if they decide to throw the can at the costume they will explode again and reset the cycle where there will be a giant version of the costume will be behind them that will start talking backwards aggressively.

Usage

In the ink realm, sometimes the costumes may be possessed by unknown supernatural causes.

Behind the scenes

The Bendy costume first appear in the fourth chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine as non-interactive objects,[2] then one later appeared in Bendy: Secrets of the Machine with a new design and somewhat antagonistic role.[3]

Inspirations

The Bendy costume is inspired by the Bendy cosplay worn by father and son at the PAX East event.[a]

Other information

In Bendy: Secrets of the Machine, the Bendy costume was first introduced in update patch #11. Introduced in the game's update patch #12, the Bendy costume appeared in the Drawing Board's main hub and behaves similarly to the Weeping Angel from Doctor Who, slowly following the player when they are not being looked at. When it's right behind the player and is not being looked at, it emits whispering.

The player can find a golden can of Bacon Soup from Fred and use it to either throw it or touch the costume with it. When it comes into contact with the costume, it will vanish into white smoke and reset the game. If the player touched the mascot with it rather than throwing it, the player will still have the can in their hands. When re-entering the drawing room, the costume appears again in a small alcove seen in the first hallway, speaking a slightly more aggressive version of the whispering. The player can either ignore it or toss the can at it. Tossing the can causes it to vanish into a puff of smoke and resets the game yet again. This time, when the game resets, the entire area is shaking and a giant version of the costume is behind the player, emitting loud whispers until it vanishes yet again and crashes the game. It was first added in update patch #13.

Formerly, from update patch #20 to update patch #21, it could be seen in a corner of the Drawing Board's teaser room. When the player is not looking at it, it will stare at the player. When the player is right in front of it while looking away, a whispering can be heard emitted from the costume. The "revenge" sequence is the same, however.

From the same game, reversing the costume's whispering (during its non-hostile phase) reveals them singing "Build Our Machine" by DAGames. The same goes for the whispering while in the first hallway of the Drawing Room, albeit more aggressively. Furthermore, when in its giant form, it whispers the final line that plays before the chorus in "Build Our Machine".
