Audio logs

Audio Logs, also known as cassette players and recording tapes, are devices littered around the Cycle. They are one of the primary methods of delivering additional lore and backstory alongside Memos, and can sometimes be used as an essential part of gameplay.

Overview

Audio logs are voice recordings from the many employees of Joey Drew Studios and Gent. These recordings are heard by interacting with an audio log in the environment, and/or playing it in the pause menu, in the case of Bendy and the Dark Revival. In Bendy and the Ink Machine, transcripts of each audio log are displayed on screen while the player is in proximity to one while it is playing, with the audio unable to be stopped until the log is finished. This was changed for Bendy and the Dark Revival, with audio log transcripts now being stored in the pause menu instead, alongside adding the ability to stop listening to an audio log both in gameplay and in the pause screen.

Behind the scenes

The audio logs are openly inspired by the audio diaries from the BioShock series.[1] However, unlike in BioShock, the audio logs in Bendy and the Ink Machine cannot be picked up like an item and must be physically interacted with. In Bendy and the Dark Revival, the audio logs were reworked to be closer to BioShock, now functioning as actual collectibles that can be found in the game's pause screen.

In Bendy and the Ink Machine, the audio logs are not given visible names, instead only being named within the game's code. This was changed for Bendy and the Dark Revival, with the names of each audio log being visible in the pause screen.
