History

As "theMeatly Games"

theMeatly Games was first established on 2015 by theMeatly and it consists only two people at the time, with the second person being Mike D. Before developing Bendy and the Ink Machine, theMeatly created and released his first project on Game Jolt on May 11, 2016: MeatlyMakes

Regardless of Joey Drew Studios Inc's taking over the brand's place, theMeatly sometimes develop his own solo projects without connections to the Bendy series, including the parody horror game Meatly's Storage World which was released on January 22, 2023.

As "Kindly Beast"

Kindly Beast was a successor to theMeatly Games, with its reveal announced on September 15, 2018. Although before theMeatly Games was rebranded as Kindly Beast, Joey Drew Studios Inc was quietly established on July 31, 2018 as a side team to focus on the Bendy brand, while Kindly Beast would develop and release games that do not have any associations with the Bendy series despite owning the franchise's IP.

Throughout 2019, the team developed their major non-Bendy project titled Showdown Bandit, an episodic top-down horror adventure game that takes place in a vintage Western puppetry show. The game was released on September 17, 2019 and met with largely mixed reviews. On October 11, 2019, it sparks a major controversy when it was reported that Mike D fired over 50 employees without notice, leaving them jobless while only over 10 members remain in the team. Before their firings, several ex-members' negative reviews about the company were found on Glassdoor, where they describe the company's rather toxic environment and Mike's management at the time during production of Showdown Bandit. On December 16th, after releasing his Q&A Reddit post, Mike in his deleted Twitter account tweeted his open apology to the employees he fired.[1] The Showdown Bandit game, although its first chapter was fully finished, was completely removed from Steam after the following controversy, leading to its permanent hiatus before other chapters were even made.

As a result of the debacle, Kindly Beast's website, along with its social media platforms, were shut down on June 1, 2020, confirming the team's discontinuation with no official announcement made. However, the host website is still currently available.

As "Joey Drew Studios Inc"

The Joey Drew Studios Inc is best known for its foundation of the Bendy franchise and was established on July 31, 2018. It was named after the fictional in-game company of the same name. The company goes by the name of Gent Corporation when developing and releasing Bendy games that focus on the ingame series' corrupted corporation of the same name, while Joey Drew Studios Inc itself serves as a publisher.

Upon establishment, it first started out as a side team to the former main company Kindly Beast, dividing into two separated teams. However, Kindly Beast was permanently discontinued on 2020 due to its reputation affected by the controversies in 2019, with Joey Drew Studios Inc remain as a main standalone team to only focus on Bendy projects and nothing else.
