Story
Prologue
During the events of the Dark Revival, Boris tries to survive off whatever resources he can find within the forgotten Studio, all while fearing the Ink Demon, who stalks his every move.
Rediscovered identity
While scavenging around the Studio, Boris finds scraps that remind him of a past long gone, the man he used to be.
Higher score
Boris heads on over to the Artist's Rest to repair the Fuseball game to get a higher score.
The hunt
Boris goes to the Abyss to collect ink hearts, due to his curiosity, he accidentally unleashed the dangerous hunter in the darkness, the Projectionist.
After Boris escapes from him, he is decapitated by Wilson Arch's Keepers.
Deceived
Boris finds tapes from a woman named Milla Legna, who seems to be a soul lost inside the studio, as Boris opens the door he finds something besides a young girl behind the door, instead he finds Alice Angel trying to lure him to his demise, after Boris escapes from Alice she is then taken by another Keeper.
Bad decision
Boris saw a strange crate in his safehouse, letting his curiosity getting the better of him, opens the crate with a padlock key, however this would result in a bad decision as inside the crate was the Butcher Gang. Boris unleashed them.
Past vision
After Boris collects all four candles and retrieved Sammy's mask, he gets a vision of the past of the Mad Maestro of the studio, Sammy Lawrence, lurking around the Music Department. Eventually, Sammy retreats to his sanctuary, playing songs of sacrifice, before he too, is taken by a Keeper.
Lost story
Boris learns about a story of two friends in the darkness, their names are Porter and the other being Heidi.
While he and Heidi were playing hide-and-seek, Heidi was taken by Keepers.
Porter escaped, Heidi, did not.
Final stop
The wolf's final stop is the Gent laboratory, he discovers a strange machine, turning it on reveals a portal, a portal that goes out of the ink realm but not until a horde of enemies found him in which he fought for his life. Once all enemies were defeated. Boris walks into the portal, freeing himself from the madness.
Gameplay
Bendy: Lone Wolf is a top-down survival horror roguelike. Players use an elevator to travel down to one of the studio's many floors - of which there have been 8 confirmed - with each level being randomly generated. While exploring a level, players will have to use improvised weapons in order to fight off various ink creatures, with players now being able to block attacks. Players also have access to an arcade area, where they can spend found Slugs to play several minigames.
Lone Wolf features three difficulty modes: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Hard difficulty features Permadeath mode, where if the player dies, they will lose their save and have to start from the beginning of the game.
Porter is a playable character in Lone Wolf, replacing the Lost One from the original release and gaining the Flow ability from Dark Revival. Additionally, Porter will have a unique objective while being played as, having to find Heidi in a game of hide-and-seek.
Sammy returns as a playable character, working exactly as he did in Boris and the Dark Survival. He cannot sprint, instead being able to flow through cracks in the wall. Sammy has a unique objective in the Music Department, a direct recreation from Chapter 2. He must make his way to his office while evading the Ink Demon, eventually ending up in the recording room to play the instruments in the order on the wall painting in his office. Upon entering his sanctuary, the level is over.
There are several items throughout the game that can be collected to unlock story elements, including safehouse scraps, padlock keys, fuses, weapon components, ink hearts, Gent pipes, slugs, and more. These items can be found scattered around levels within lockers, fuseboxes, and lockboxes - which each have a small minigame to unlock - and within breakable crates and on tables and such. To unlock new floors via the elevator, the player can find elevator buttons to progress to later levels.
Progression
By collecting items scattered around the studio, the players can progress the story and mechanics of the game in several ways. In the left upper corner of the lift room there is a board the player can view that shows 7 check boxes, which are marked off as the players finish each stage.
By collecting all 7 pieces of safehouse scrap, the player unlocks the collage located on the right upper wall of the main room of Boris' safehouse, along with a small cutscene reminiscent of one seen previously in Boris and the Dark Survival. A mystery box is placed near said collage following its completion.
By collecting all 5 padlock keys, the player can unlock a large crate south of the lift room and by doing so, release the Butcher Gang. Another mystery box is placed nearby.
Each floor unlocked through the course of the game's progression has different level generations and enemies. The first unlocked is the Studio, which primarily resembles the floors explored during Bendy and the Ink Machine: Chapter 3 - Rise and Fall. The most common enemies there are Searchers, which typically appear out of ink puddles.
Another floor is the Artists' Rest, as originally seen in Bendy and the Dark Revival. This floor features more lockers, lockboxes, and fuseboxes than the Studio, and introduces both slugs and Lost Ones.
The Abyss is a floor reminiscent of the Projectionist's lair, floor 14 of the studio (as is seen in Chapter 3: Rise and Fall). Flyers attack the player occasionally, and ink hearts are found near dead Butcher Gang members.
Development
The game was first discovered around January 2024.[2]. The developers confirmed that the game is a rebrand of Boris and the Dark Survival, such as an image uploaded by theMeatly of the Mystery Box (with the same textures from Boris and the Dark Survival) slightly opened with the tag "Lone Wolf",[3] along with multiple of Mike's tweets.[4][5]
On May 13th, 2024, theMeatly confirmed that the game is more roguelike in terms of mechanics, along with combat, more complete features, a proper story conclusion, achievements and a hard mode where the game entirely starts over if the player dies.[6]
On October 23rd, 2024, Joey Drew Studios Inc announced the game was completed and was now entering its porting stage.[7]
It was later confirmed that Bendy: Lone Wolf was going to be a separate game conceived to replace Boris and the Dark Survival, rather than being an update to the latter as originally planned.[8]
On December 16th, 2024, the official trailer was released, along with the game being officially put on Steam.
On February 7th, 2025, A fan by the name of ChairThatSpins shared two screenshots of the game that had been given by the team in one of his YouTube videos, which were uploaded on the Steam page long after that.[9]
On July 3rd, 2025, a new trailer was released, announcing the game to be launching on almost all platforms on August 15th, 2025.
From August 4th, 2025 to August 24th, 2025, Joey Drew Studios Inc released short-form videos on their YouTube channel, ranging from tiny information about the game (achievements, difficulty, etc.) to full-blown behind the scenes of it (generated levels and hazard designs).
On October 6th, 2025, Mike D shared an iOS screenshot of the icon for the game on his YouTube channel and his X/Twitter account, alongside the 2nd mainline game, Bendy and the Dark Revival.
