The horror visions[a] are event-based hallucinations that Henry Stein experienced during his journey throughout the Cycle.

List of visions

  • In Chapter 1: Moving Pictures, towards the end of the first chapter after approaching the ritual symbol from the Ritual Room, Henry experienced three vision images while the whole room darkens and fogs forming; the first image showing the Ink Machine, the second Joey Drew's wheelchair, and the third of the Ink Demon.
  • In Chapter 2: The Old Song, a vision effect briefly occurs when crushing the Miner Searcher to death with the falling wooden crate within the Sewers.
  • In Chapter 3: Rise and Fall, a vision effect occurs when finishing up the boss fight against the Searcher Boss.
  • In Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders, there are more visions happening when Henry travels further to next locations in progress:
    • Inside the Archives, pushing three books from the bookshelves before doing two others in order to open the door to the cavern will cause Henry to experience a brief hallucination-like event: most of the vault lids are opening and closing wildly, along with lanterns and the ceiling chandelier lamp swaying.
    • Another vision-like event occur within the hallway to the Spiral Stairway. Henry sees numerous inky arms of the Lost Ones with grasping hands sprouting from both walls of the hallway. After the vision ends, the Ink Machine is seen briefly descending by chains far ahead around the spiral stairways.
    • A vision effect occurs at the Maintenance, seen as soon as the Ink Demon bursts through the sealed valve door to fight the Projectionist. The flashes, when slowed down, show the Ink Demon in different stages of fighting the Projectionist and will end after the Ink Demon decapitates the Projectionist.
    • Another vision effect triggered when killing Brute Boris with empty Bacon Soup cans.
  • In Chapter 5: The Last Reel, the final horror vision occur when killing the hidden Sammy variant of the Searcher.
    • A similar vision effect occurs during Beast Bendy's death.
  • In all chapters, the horror vision effect is activated for the ink tunnel after dying.

Behind the scenes

The flashback-like vision images from Chapter 1: Moving Pictures were first added in the first remastered edition for the DLC release of Chapter 2: The Old Song, while the horror visions themselves debut in Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders.

Development

After the flashback images were introduced in the game's first remastered update, they were updated with redesigned models for the last remastered update after the launch of Chapter 4, excluding the wheelchair image. The Ink Demon's old flashback image was used as a split second frame for Chapter 3's announcement trailer video.

Inspirations

The Chapter 1 ending with the flashback visions is possibly a nod to Jack's visions from the first BioShock.

Other information

The sound and filter effects for the visions are reused in Bendy and the Dark Revival, when Audrey uses the Banish ability on an enemy. The sound effect, however, is edited to be lower pitched.

Notes

  1. "Horror visions" derive from the file names for the audio clips used for the fourth chapter's vision scenes; all their names start with 'Sfx_horror_vision_...'.
