Lost Ones
- This article refers to the ink realm species. For other uses, see Lost Ones (disambiguation).
The Lost Ones are a race of ink humanoid entities as well as the ink realm's main population. They are human beings transformed after transferring from the real world to the ink realm.
Characteristics
Physical appearance
The Lost Ones share a similar form to humans, only being made of ink rather than flesh, their faces featuring prominent dripping ink and missing features such as noses, mouths and ears, as well as possessing glowing yellow eyes. In Bendy and the Ink Machine, they appear underweight and have eyes proportionate to those of humans, possessing toes and appearing fairly untextured and smooth. In Bendy and the Dark Revival, they have larger eyes and have more detail than their previous iteration, featuring clear ribs, chests and now lacking toes. They have also gained sexual dimorphism, males having larger feet, hands and featuring pecs whereas females possess hair, rounder eyes, smaller hands and feet and feature breasts.
Intelligence
Their original human personalities appear to remain intact, however, most if not all individuals had their sense of selves and mental stability deteriorate. Most tend to be hostile out of fear or anger towards others, many are miserable and depressed, and some appear to have divine madness. Three unique lost ones exist which do not fit the other categories mentioned. Porter is a friendly adventurer, appearing to be a little odd due to his insanity but still being friendly, Heidi appears to be a grown woman but very clearly age regresses as all she wants is to play and talks in a childish manner. The Patron is the more positive and sane lost one who takes a liking into art.
Due to their mental breakdowns, some Lost Ones appear to have memory loss, implied by some writing in a test tube within the Giant Ink Machine that reads: "I STILL REMEMBER MY NAME",[1] implying that they lost the rest of their memories.
Lost Ones are still very clearly intelligent despite their mental derangement, having created entire cities and areas to live in, such as the Lost Harbor[1] and the Lost City.[2] They’ve also been shown to create societies within the ink realm, such as those who worship Lord Amok and the handprints resembling that of ancient human caves in the Lost Harbor.

Apocryphal information
When a human is transformed, they undergo various mental and physical alterations upon becoming a Lost One. Their vision changes to that of a flicking view, like "snapshots". The Lost Ones also have the ability to inhumanly move at a fast phase, the pain or injury they previously had wouldn't carry on to their inky state since the substance of ink would make them not feel the pain. During their state as a Lost One, the creature's memories seem to be unstable and they don't seem to remember or understand everything they do.[3] When in a collective mass, the Lost Ones blur together in the ink, people's thoughts and memories mixing and shifting from one another, screaming in endless agony.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Lost Ones first appear in Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders of Bendy and the Ink Machine, while the enemy versions appear in Chapter 5: The Last Reel. The Lost Ones return in Bendy and the Dark Revival as the most common enemies encountered in all chapters up to date.
Development
The Lost Ones were conceptualized during production of Chapter 4 for Bendy and the Ink Machine. Gavin McCarthy's concept art originally depict the Lost Ones with a visible nose, non-glowing yellow eyes complete with iris and pupils, and deformed arms with a mass of ink drips resembling coat sleeves.
When they were first introduced in Bendy and the Ink Machine, only the male Lost Ones appear due to all sharing the same basic model designs, likely because at the time they lacked any gender-defining characteristics. In Bendy and the Dark Revival, their model designs were given an overhaul and bears some resemblance to Gavin's original concept art, along with introducing new female counterparts.
From the mobile version of Bendy and the Ink Machine, an eye texture can be found in the files, referred as 'LostOnesEyeTexture'. Judging by its file name, it was meant to be used for the Lost Ones' eyes before ending up cut.
