Ink fish

Ink fish is the Cycle's equivalent to the real world's corresponding aquatic species. They inhabit oceans and rivers of ink, where they were mostly harvested by fishermen for food or even adopted as house pets.

Known species

Gilson

A gilson is a fish exclusively native to the Cycle's world. They can be identified by their light-colored body with thicker scales from the back area, smaller mouth, round eyes, and darker fins.

They are freshwater fish that moves incredibly fast, making it nearly impossible for fishermen to catch and they can ignore most baits. They are, however, sensitive to sound vibration, such as 'sweet music', and playing such music is the only way to catch them successfully. They can be also crushed up for part of the sleep drink's ingredient.[1]

Allison Angel and Tom kept a school of possibly gilson fish from their safehouse.[2] Wilson also has a pet gilson named Harold from his manor.[3]

Yellow perch

The yellow perch is a common freshwater fish usually quick as taking bites on anything, especially bait sources like worms, minnows, and larvae.[1]

The yellow perch, while a part of the Cycle's animal life, is also a real-life fish native to half of North America.

Behind the scenes

Ink fish first appears in the fifth chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine.

On October 20, 2018, six days prior to the chapter's launch, story writer Bookpast updated his Twitter profile picture (which was a photo of a electric yellow cichlid) with the fish's model as a brief leak for the chapter.
