Keepers
"We are the Keepers. Order. Control. Eternal. We serve the many, by serving the one. The Machine must endure." |
The Keepers are malicious beings who serve and obey Wilson as his main enforcers in the ink realm. All the Keepers were Wilson's creations and servants to watch over the other inhabitants for him.
History
Early life
Somewhere on early 1970s after Wilson discovered the ink realm, he created the Keepers with the use of the Ink Machine. They were designed as a visual living representation of the Ink Machine itself,[1] and to keep the cycle from resetting.
Capturing the Ink Demon and Cyclebreakers
At some point, the Keepers, under Wilson's order, captured various ink creatures and items that were crucial to the cycle's continuation. To stop it from resetting, these people and items were contained in The Pit and were designated as the "Cyclebreakers."
After some time, the Keepers sedated the Ink Demon and transported him to Laboratory 9 for experimentation. The Keepers tried to terminate the demon through quarter hourly session of physical torture and surgical invasions. But after realizing that termination was impossible, they attempted to find a new method of control. After some time they trapped the Ink Demon inside a smaller and harmless version, called "Bendy". They injured the new version to test his emotional response and felt satisfied when he screamed and cried. Later on, Bendy was either freed from or had escaped the Gent Workshop since he later appeared elsewhere.
Audrey's containment breach
In the middle of Audrey's journey, a Keeper noticed her using the elevator so the creature opens the bottom of the elevator to drop Audrey into an underground area with the Widows.
As Audrey entered the Gent Workshop, the Keepers interrogate and try to capture Audrey as she makes her way through the factory, although by the time she makes it to The Pit's entrance door and attempts to open it, the alarm went off as another Keeper emerged out of the security trapdoor and captured her, taking her to the subway train to meet up with Wilson.
The Keepers are later seen dwelling throughout Wilson's retreat, interrogating Lost Ones and patrolling in the North Wing.
Aftermath
It's unknown what happened to the Keepers after Wilson was ultimately killed. However, they are likely still existing around the ink realm, now without purpose.
Characteristics
Physical appearance
The Keepers resemble cyborg-like creatures that are part organic and part machines. Similar to the Projectionist, these creations cast a ray of light from their "eyes". They are faceless and wear helmets over their heads that seem to resemble ocean divers. They have three long arms and clawed fingers with wires wrapped around them. Their right arms have an extra forearm which seems to be stitched on, with a metal bracelet on their primary wrist. Their left arm has a much larger cuff which seems to serve as some kind of protection. They wear specialized suits which seem to resemble sleeveless lab coats but are black instead of white and have glowing outlines. They have four pipe like tentacles in place of legs and use them to slide on the floor. They also have what appears to be a part of a gear wedge into their upper backs.
Personality
The Keepers are sadistic entities with no sense of morality. They are willing to serve Wilson under all circumstances and are obsessed with order, control, and the Ink Machine.
Abilities
While they move like slugs, they are surprisingly fast when angered. While their lights are normally yellow, they will become orange when ever they spot any unwanted intruders. It seems that they are able to move by levitating above the ground as shown when one of them emerged from a trapdoor.

Behind the scenes
The Keepers are enemies that appear in Bendy and the Dark Revival. Although only their voice was heard in Chapter 3: The Eternal Machine, they made their physical debut in Chapter 4: Factory of Horrors and reappeared in Chapter 5: The Dark Revival. They also appear in Bendy: Lone Wolf, but only seen in cutscenes.
Development
The early idea is to have the Keepers created as enslaved souls forced to do Wilson's bidding. They were later changed to be more mechanical and otherworldly when the idea of them being the representations of the Ink Machine sounds more fitting.[2] The concept art depicts the Keepers as floating legless hybrids of humans and machinery, with crossed human arms and additional pair of robotic arms, pipe-like wires sprouting around the back areas with some connected to the arms and head areas, and wears a metal-plated mask complete with shoulder guards, along with a curved iron bar-like crown and a cyclopian yellow eye.
Another old concept art depicts the Keepers to have more mechanical aspects. They originally had larger knife-like claws, a serpentine tail made of larger pipes, a pair of small tank jars from the back of their shoulders, a ragged cape, and a variety of three head designs: a black brain with glowing eyes, an astronaut helmet, and a gas mask. These designs were ultimately scrapped for looking "too alien" in feel.[3]
Inspirations
While they may bear some resemblance to the Alpha Series of Big Daddies from BioShock 2, it is possible that the Keepers are inspired by the Warpers from Subnautica for a few different reasons: They are both unnatural cyborgs created to maintain order by using many ruthless methods. They are both humanoids with tendrils for legs and have glowing features. And to top it off, they both speak in distorted robotic voices that often stutter and often communicate with each other when it comes to hunting down targets. To further back up this evidence, both usually use words like "subject" and "designation" while speaking.
Portrayal
The Keepers are voiced by Jason C. Miller along with Lani Minella, who is also a voice actress for Lacie Benton from the fourth chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine.
