"The disgusting wretches have wandered my halls, have gone unchecked! They're trying to drag me back to the darkness! Don't let them take your angel!"
Alice Angel commanding Henry to kill the Butcher Gang.[1]

The Butcher Gang is a group of horribly disfigured creatures based on Joey Drew Studios' cartoon characters, mainly the original villain characters of the same name. They are hostile creatures that hunt as a gang, having bonded together to stay alive.

Characteristics

Physical appearance

The Butcher Gang take the appearance of their original cartoon counterparts, albeit physically and mentally disfigured at every level. Their bodies show horrific mutilations, with random objects in place of their missing body parts, to the point they look nearly unrecognizable to their original selves, the result of being deconstructed by Alice Angel for body parts. [2]

Intelligence

Their demeanor resembles the original Butcher Gang's, but they appear to have slightly low to average intelligence and cannot speak properly, talking in extreme gibberish and rarely speaking clear words. Despite their low intellect, they are still dangerous to anyone they come after.

Known members

  • The Piper - A corrupted counterpart of Charley. He serves as the gang's leader and wields a pipe wrench as his weapon, with a very low range vertical strike and a high range horizontal strike.
  • The Fisher - A corrupted counterpart of Barley. He is the slowest but strongest member of the gang. His weapon was originally a wrench but was later replaced with a large hook.
  • The Striker - A corrupted counterpart of Edgar. He runs faster than other members and attacks by striking with his fists.
  • The Slicer - A corrupted counterpart of Carley, a character who was potentially meant to be the fourth Butcher Gang member for the Bendy cartoons. She is by far the most dangerous as she can teleport to any person at random while trying to harm them with her claws.

Behind the scenes

The Butcher Gang is a group of individual enemies that first appear in Chapter 3: Rise and Fall of Bendy and the Ink Machine, then later in Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders and Chapter 5: The Last Reel. They also appear in Boris and the Dark Survival and Bendy and the Dark Revival.

Development

The Butcher Gang's enemy counterparts were actually first conceptualized before their original cartoon forms.[3]

Portrayal

The Butcher Gang in Bendy and the Ink Machine, as well as in Boris and the Dark Survival, nearly share the same "voicelines" and thus voiced by theMeatly[4] although uncredited. The Butcher Gang members in Bendy and the Dark Revival have their own voice actors: The Piper voiced by John Meissner, the Fisher voiced by Mat Brunet, and the Striker voiced by Gary McClenaghan.

Inspirations

The Butcher Gang may have been strongly inspired by the Splicers, the main enemies from the BioShock series. Both are groups of mutilated and deformed enemies armed with random weapons, with Fisher holding the hook weapon being a possible reference to the Spider Splicers.
