Charley is a cartoon character from the series of Bendy cartoons by Joey Drew Studios and one of the main antagonists of the fictional Bendy media. He is the leader of a gangster-like trio group: the "Butcher Gang".

Description

Creation

He was created for the cartoon The Butcher Gang in 1935, along with Barley and Edgar. The identity of Charley's original creator is uncertain.

Physical appearance

Charley, the tallest of the gang, is a nearly bald humanoid with large ears, oval-shaped head, a black animalistic nose, sideburn-like hair, and a beard with a faint resemblance to Bendy's horns. He also has sharp teeth, but they were occasionally visible whenever he is angered or grinning.

He wears a tailcoat and vest, a black tie, white gloves, and black shoes.

Personality

The leader of the Butcher Gang, Charley is devious, impatient, and has slight anger issues. He is morally ambiguous as well as unscrupulous when carrying out his schemes, seen when stealing coins from the cash register in the "Tasty Trio Troubles" cartoon.

• The Butcher Gang (1935) - Charley's first appearance along with Barley and Edgar.
• Tasty Trio Troubles (1935) - As one of the main characters. At the restaurant, he's in charge as a cashier.
• Demonic Tonic (year unknown) - With his other members, Charley shrunk and trapped Bendy in a bottle.

Comic appearances

The following contains apocryphal information from the novel continuity which was not canon to the main series' storyline. See Bendy Wiki:Canon for more information.

• To the Moon (1936) - Charley's first comic appearance. He tricks and sends Bendy, Boris and Alice to the moon. He reappears in the last panel after the trio crash-land onto him and his ship.
• Construction Corruption (1941) - Charley tries to 'go straight' while in business with constructing the skyscraper, but Bendy and Boris ruin it with their tomfoolery.
• All Washed Up' (1945) - Charley was only mentioned.
• Giddyup, Bendy! (1946) - Charley appears in this comic with Barley and Edgar, but is not the Butcher Gang leader this time.

Behind the scenes

Charley, along with Barley and Edgar, first appear in the third chapter of Bendy and the Ink Machine from The Butcher Gang poster. While some dedicated promo assets were seen, a corrupted enemy counterpart named the Piper appears in Bendy and the Ink Machine, Boris and the Dark Survival, and Bendy and the Dark Revival.

Charley is theMeatly's favorite character of the Butcher Gang group.

Charley's species was debatable due to lack of official source. Charley was first speculated to be a chimpanzee judging by the large ears and a black nose similar to the distinctive traits of primate characters from the rubberhose cartoon media like Fleischer, however the animator TimetheHobo deconfirms it as a case.
