The internecion[1] is a hidden challenge that occur in Bendy and the Ink Machine.

Strategy

Do not die in the game or mess up the following order; otherwise the progress would be aborted, giving no other options but to restart the game.

Trigger the hidden horror visions in all following chapters, except Chapter 1: Moving Pictures:

  • In Chapter 2: The Old Song:
    • Turn on the Infirmary's valve after retrieving it from Swollen Jack, and before entering Sammy Lawrence's Office, go all the way back to the Ritual Room.
    • When finding the Miner Searcher, do not kill it with an axe. Instead, lure it all the way down to the end of the Sewers.
    • Raise the crate and wait until the Miner Searcher is at the same area where Swollen Jack was previously crushed. At the right time, crush the Miner Searcher to kill it and trigger the horror vision effect as a result.
    • Continue finishing up the rest of the chapter and make sure to survive from the Ink Demon's corridor maze chase.
  • In Chapter 3: Rise and Fall:
    • Change the ink toy's shape into Boris' at the Heavenly Toys Department's toy machine room.
    • Choose the "Angel" path.
    • At the main area of Alice Angel's lair, before going up to Level K to break the Bendy cutouts for Alice's fetch quest, use the axe to break down the boards and open the door to the small office with Grant Cohen's "The Genius Upstairs" audio log inside. There is another axe in the room but do not pick it up yet.
    • After completing Alice Angel's ink heart fetch quest without dying, finally take the axe from the room, but do not use the elevator just yet. Take the stairs up to Level K, go to the Heavenly Toys Department's toy workshop, and break down the wooden boards to access three hidden levers.
    • Start the lever challenge minigame by pulling down the levers one by one. First kill the wave of Searcher Minibosses, then the clone army of the Butcher Gang members, and finally the Searcher Boss. Completing this minigame will trigger the horror vision effect.
    • Go back down to Level 9 and finally use the elevator.
  • In Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders:
    • Activate the second switch in Storage 9 to open the entrance to the Attraction Storage location, then go back to the Research & Design department to find and collect all 29 weapon-type empty Bacon Soup cans. The soup cans are used for killing the enemies throughout the chapter but must be used sparingly, especially with correct aiming.
    • Kill the Piper, the Fisher, and Striker with two soup cans each.
    • Kill Bertrum Piedmont by throwing the soup cans at sixteen bolts to destroy all four crane arms.
    • Kill the Projectionist with five soup cans. (As a result, the cutscene of the fight between the Ink Demon and the Projectionist will not happen.)
    • Kill Brute Boris with two soup cans to trigger the horror vision effect and complete the chapter. Hitting him with the first soup can in the start of the fight will skip to his third and last stage. However, swiftly dodge the cart when Brute Boris throws it, as getting hit by a cart is an instant kill.
  • In Chapter 5: The Last Reel:
    • Complete the Gent home office's pipe puzzle to open the Film Vaults' entrance door, then go back to the administration offices and find the room with rocky debris. Grab the scythe that spawns there.
    • Kill every single Searchers from every location of this maze, and make sure that the Butcher Gang members are dead.
    • Go to the entrance to Joey Drew's Office to make the Sammy Searcher spawn. Kill this variant to trigger the final horror vision effect.
    • Finish the rest of the chapter and complete Beast Bendy's boss fight without dying. Finally, in the epilogue scene, simply go and meet Joey at his kitchen to complete the game.

After completing the game and revisiting Chapter 1, go to the Lunch Room after lifting up the Ink Machine. From there, the stairway's entrance is no longer boarded up, allowing full access to the secret area. Go down, and at the end of the hallway is the ink tunnel, the same tunnel that Henry spawns after death. Finally, go through the tunnel. After reaching at the end of the ink tunnel, Henry will be directly brought back to the start of the chapter, and the vision for his point-of-view is now different.

The vision's color, instead of the usual sepia-based colors, is now heavily filtered with black and white colors similar to the vintage photos and films from early 20th century. Other than a different filter, nothing else is unique about this mode.

Behind the scenes

This challenge was added for the final version of Bendy and the Ink Machine after the release of Chapter 5: The Last Reel. Although only possible to be played on the original PC port, it was not included in the games' home console versions.[1]

Mike D explains that the internecion does not have anything to do with the series' lore as he only made it out of boredom and never tested it himself.[1]
