Bendy: The Lost Ones is the second novel written by Adrienne Kress. It was published on December 7th, 2021. Although set after the events of Dreams Come to Life, it is a standalone story.

Summary

Atlantic City, 1946. Bill, Constance, and Brant can’t help but feel like they are missing out on life. Bill craves an existence outside of his father’s influence. Brant is willing to play a dangerous game to further his career and make a name for himself. Constance yearns for the freedom to be herself and do exactly what she loves. What these three teens don’t know is that their desires will lead them all to a dark secret. Something inky just came to town in the form of a curious machine and a visit from a man named Joey Drew. When mysterious ink stains begin permeating their lives, will these teens investigate and risk it all in the process? And what of the monster lurking in the shadows? Bill Chambers - A young boy who doesn't like his father's, Emmett Chambers', fancy stuff.
Constance Gray - A backstage employee who is interested in science.
Brant Morris - A young journalist who wants be noticed by people.
Thomas Connor - The repairman of Gent and the inventor of the Ink Machine.
Scott - A Gent employee who works at the Atlantic City location.
Joey Drew - The founder of Joey Drew Studios, and the mastermind behind the Ink Machine experiments.
Ink Demon - The demonic ink creature that threatens the lives of the residents in Atlantic City.
Ink - A strange living organism that terrorizes everyone and everything around it.
Emmett Chambers - A rich politician who owns half of Atlantic City.
Andrew - A young man who's the temporary boyfriend of Constance Gray.

Story

Prologue: Wally

Wally expresses his enjoyment of late nights at the studio while also acknowledging that strange things occur around. He also notes that the new renovations are causing his muscles to ache more frequently, but he isn't ready to retire yet. Wally then hears who he assumes is Thomas Connor, yelling at others to be careful when moving something. Wally first thinks he might be wrong since Thomas was fired, but then bumps into the man himself. Thomas states that him and Joey didn't have a choice after Wally asks if Joey rehired him. He then asks if he's moving the machine, and Thomas repeatedly says yes to end the conversation. Wally lets him go and goes on to talk about Joey Drew Studio's attempts to save money, listing off the things he's seen. He then claims he's seen everything, including what dragged the ink so far down the halls and on the walls. He wraps up by taking the trash out of a small tidy office and making sure to turn the lights off.

Chapter 1: Bill

In Atlantic City, during a filming Bill ask to his father, Emmett, about Constance, who is having a role as a horse diving girl, as the weather got cold. Emmett ignores Bill and storms off to change, Bill then goes to obverse the cameras but gets shooed away by an operator. He goes to the diving platform to press his embarrassment, while there he assures Constance that everything was fine. Bill then talks about his father's braveness in investing in hotels and night clubs as World War II went on, he explains that the film was made to remind people to be merry after the war. While expressing his interest in construction Bill notices that the diving platform's steel wire was loose. After he gets ignored by the staff he goes to a man named Steve and sends him off to get tools, he then tells his father about the fault much to his frustration. After realizing he needs someone to bring the horse up to Constance, Emmett yells at a young man (which happens to be Brant) to escort the horse, right as Bill goes to fix the loose wire. Bill tries to fix it on his own but after failing he tells Steve to get others to push from the other side, after the push Bill tightens the bolt and exchanges nods with Steve. He then expresses his discomfort about despite all of the film scenes being a pretend, there was still a real person diving.

Chapter 2: Constance

While on top of the diving platform, Constance talks about the inconveniences of the role but states she offered to help since her older sister, Molly was sick and her younger sister, Lily was scared of horses. She then asks if everything is going okay, Bill from down below claims that it is but Constance doesn't believe him, stating that since he was rich his definition of "fine" was different. She then complains about her inability to express herself because of her other family members' personality. While talking about the audience the platform shakes much to Constance's horror but she eases after realizing it was safe. After Brant brings the horse, him and Constance have a small talk and after Emmett's disguised order Brant holds the horse in place as Constance gets on, Brant then leaves right after. Right after Emmett announces that they're ready, Constance commands the horse to jump and they successfully dive.

Chapter 3: Brant

While at the horse dive filming for journalistic purposes, Brant talks about various topics related to the subject, like; narrative decisions, journalism, rich people trying to pretend its summer, horse diving, audiences cheering on cue, and being invisible in a crowd. while he's talking about being invisible in crowds and not being seen until you are, Emmett tells him to bring the horse to Constance much to Brant's shock, after being sure that Brant understands he yells at him to do the job. Mr. Clark encourages Brant to bring the horse, Brant agrees to do the job in exchange for a byline. Brant then finds the horse and talks about his gratefulness for living at a time where most people used cars. After having a small talk with the old man at the makeshift shelter, he cautiously takes the horse to the diving platforms. While taking the horse up to the top, the platform shakes which Brant finds to be annoying. When at the top of the platform, he and Constance have a strange conversation, Brant then offers help and Constance takes it. After Constance settles on the horse, Brant goes to make his way down, just as he was about to Constance tells him her name, Brant claims that he knows it and walks down. After he reaches the bottom, he questions why he claimed to known her name since he clearly didn't. He then complains about his shame and after witnessing Constance's dive, he states that it was either bravery or stupidity then claims that they are really similar.

The Machine

Some unknown individuals claim that shame, anger and fear are one thing now and is a feeling and exitance that is not, and yet they are here and they feel. They also ask if it's strange to not exist yet still be real.

Thomas Connor

Thomas gets seasick while transporting the Ink Machine to Atlantic City. He states that there was always an explanation for the way thought, he shows annoyance for Allison not understanding why he took his job back after everything Joey did, despite being the one who stuck with him, he then goes on to question what he did. He then thinks about Superman, he wishes that telling what was right and wrong was as easy for him. and begins to think about the machine. He states that he's scared of it, but can't abandon it. He compares it to a growing child, needing some fixing to make it perfect. He claims that they're so close, and he doesn't want to abandon 'a miracle.'

Chapter 4: Constance

After the dive, Molly thanks Constance and hugs her. While going to Lily's bedroom she explains that she was always frustrated but had hidden it and Molly was very sweet, after entering the bedroom she sees a boxed chemistry set and is surprised by it. Molly explains that it was a gift for her doing the dive, Constance then opes the box then hugs Molly and thanks her. After Molly reveals that it was bought by a random mam, Constance states that she worries and thinks about men taking advantage of Molly's sweetness and gets frustrated about it. She then goes to the Diamond Lounge at Oceanview Hotel with Lily for backstage stuff, during the walk she thinks about there being more to life then beauty. After arriving, she talks to Mac about the possible walk effects she could do with the chemistry set. Mac then tells her to get to work since it's a already chaos inside but Constance doesn't understand since it is just a tuesday night. While at work she gets overwhelmed by her peers' requests.
