"So what if I went and painted some of those Bendy dolls with a crooked smile?"
Shawn Flynn complaining about Joey's perfectionism on dolls.[1]

The Bendy doll is a plush toy of Joey Drew Studios' main character Bendy, created by the foreman of Heavenly Toys; Shawn Flynn, who served as a liaison at Joey Drew Studios.

Characteristics

Physical appearance

The Bendy Doll is a small doll modeled after Bendy.

Found throughout the Cycle in Henry Stein's journey, the doll has no gloves and shoes, the eyes face opposite directions, the bow tie is less floppy, and there is a large stitch down the left side of its face. Its horns are also less curved. Another stitch can be seen across his bowtie.

Usage

While mostly designed as one of the Bendy franchise's marketable products, the doll is one of the six items to activate the Ink Machine. When interacted, the dolls produce a squeaking sound.

Gameplay

Locations

Bendy and the Ink Machine
  • In Chapter 1: Moving Pictures, the doll is one of the items Henry must collect for the break room to activate the Ink Machine. Once obtained, Henry must place the Bendy doll upon the pedestal in the break room that corresponds to the doll's portrait. It can be found in the Theater on a chair next to the projector.
  • In Chapter 2: The Old Song, the Bendy dolls are seen on the shelves from the S3 vault after the Ink Demon's chase event.
  • In Chapter 3: Rise and Fall, more Bendy dolls appear throughout the Heavenly Toys department and the toy storage.
  • In Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders, the Bendy doll is seen laying on a shelf in the Archives. Another doll can also be found on one of the shelves in Storage 9.
  • In Chapter 5: The Last Reel, a singular Bendy doll is found within one of the intractable drawers in Joey Drew's office.
  • In the fifth chapter's epilogue, in Joey Drew's apartment, a different Bendy doll can be noticed sitting on a shelf with five other items.

Behind the scenes

The Bendy doll first appears in Chapter 1: Moving Pictures of Bendy and the Ink Machine, and later appears in four other chapters as unobtainable objects. The doll also reappears in Bendy and the Dark Revival.

Development

From earlier versions of Bendy and the Ink Machine until the DLC release of Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders, the Bendy doll in Chapter 1 was originally localized in a randomized location:

  • Lunch Room - Found leaning next to one of the wooden pedestals near the stair entrance.

From the Bendy and the Ink Machine prototype demo, the audio upon picking the Bendy doll up has a different sound effect. Upon the releases of future remastered updates first introduced in the first remastered edition, it was changed to make it sound much like a squeezable dog toy.

From the first version of Chapter 2: The Old Song before the DLC release of Chapter 3, the Bendy dolls cannot squeak when interacted.

Merchandise

The real-life plush dolls based on the item was officially made by merchandise company PhatMojo. This doll was used in the Bendy and the Ink Machine epilogue as the item's real-world version.

A special alternative version of the official Bendy doll toy with some stitches was owned by Mike Mood and his ex-wife Jillian. This unique version is not available from online and public stores, although a Bendy doll in "Heavenly Toys"-style similar to the one Mike owns can be purchased.

Other information

In Bendy and the Ink Machine, the image of the Bendy doll when picked up has a stitch from the left side of its face, while its in-game model lacks one.
