"I ALWAYS FALL"
A secret message within the basement.

The basement is a lower room from the workshop within the Cycle.

Background

The first room includes a shelf along with a locked door blocked by a number of chairs and a dresser.

The basement consists of at least three long stairways, leading to the lower level:

  • The first floor contains a light bulb from above, which flickers rapidly and inconsistently.
  • The second floor contains two pipes each including a valve.
  • The third floor, yet again, contains a single flickering light bulb.

After the last set of stairs, the final room includes some barrels and the "THE CREATOR LIED TO US" message written in ink. The hallway leading to the pentagram room after this last room is blocked by numerous boards.

Points of interests

  • After falling through the exit hall's trap door while the workshop is collapsing and flooding, Henry ends up here. In order to drain the flood of ink, Henry has to activate one valve to the other. Afterward, both stairways are cleared and allow Henry to walk downstairs to reach the end.
  • From the starting room, there is a shelf containing Thomas Connor's "Dirty Job" audio log and a can of Bacon Soup.
  • The axe is located at the basement's final room, as it can be used to break all the boards blocking the pathway to the ritual room. Once Henry opens the door to the ritual, he can no longer turn back to the basement, due to the hallway has seemed to have caved in with boards and barrels.

Behind the scenes

The basement appears in Chapter 1: Moving Pictures of Bendy and the Ink Machine.

From the prototype demo, the basement is an only one room location and therefore Henry falls into this room instead.

From the first remastered update for the initial DLC release of Chapter 2: The Old Song, multiple stairs and more rooms for the basemen are added, but the basement is filled up with ink and both valves cannot be interacted until the DLC release of Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders.

Thomas Connor's "Dirty Job" audio log was not featured in both earlier versions until the DLC release of Chapter 3: Rise and Fall.
