"It’s just the nature of us projectionists to seek out the dark places."
Norman Polk's audio log in the inky abyss

The Projectionist is a projector-headed creature who lurks within the depths of the ink realm, being heavily implied to be the monstrous reincarnation of Norman Polk.

History

Origins

At some point, Norman Polk was turned into an ink creature. He was transformed into a creature with a projector head, presumably because he himself was a projectionist. He then started to lurk in the depths of the ink realm. While it is unknown how he died, Sammy Lawrence possibly played a role in it since his coffin is found in the ritual room near the Music Department.[1]

Lurking within the darkness

The Projectionist roamed aimlessly around the ink realm and collected hearts from the Butcher Gang members and stored them in his lair in Level 14, and in the Maintenance section of Storage 9. If anyone stole his hearts, he would mercilessly attack and kill them.

At some point, Alice Angel sent Henry to Level 14 to collect the hearts within the area. Despite the Projectionist wandering the area, Henry successfully collected the hearts and gave them to Alice.

Battling the demon

After Henry managed to turn the power back on, the Projectionist noticed and started chasing him until Henry hid in a Little Miracle Station. He stopped before it and reached for the door right before the Ink Demon came in and attacked him. During the fight, the Projectionist was punched and strangled as he tried to fight back, but he was quickly killed as the Ink Demon tore off his head and threw it at the station's door. The demon then grabbed his body and dragged it away.

The hunter becomes the hunted

After Wilson Arch entered the ink realm, he had the Keepers capture various creatures that he deemed as the "Cyclebreakers". At the time, the Projectionist, as usual, was roaming around the Abyss before he encountered someone intruding on his territory, Boris the Wolf. The Projectionist then started hunting down the wolf who was stealing the hearts that he collected from the Butcher Gang. Just as when he was closing in on Boris, another hunter was lurking around, revealed to be one of the Keepers that tracked him down. Unaware of their presence, the Keeper charged at the Projectionist, managing to defeat him by decapitating him, leaving his projector head on the ground, which was taken to the Gent Workshop's prison.

Contained

After his defeat, his head can be found contained in a glass box inside the Gent Workshop's prison. Interacting with the glass activates his projector head, which emits his usual screech, indicating he's still alive.

Revenge

After Audrey Drew fused with the Ink Demon to form Beast Bendy, Henry found the Projectionist's head and took it to the room Audrey was heading towards. After "The End" reel was put on his head, the Projectionist played the reel and screamed at the Ink Demon, resetting the cycle in the process.

Characteristics

Physical appearance

The Projectionist is a tall humanoid creature that is almost completely covered in ink and notably has a projector as a head. Several long, hanging black wires (possibly film roll or wires from the projector itself) are attached to his back and under his head, with the longest wire attaching to his right ankle, and another attached to his right arm. He has a film reel stuck in his left shoulder. The Projectionist seems to wear clothing if one looks really carefully, with rolled-up sleeves for his shirt, and pants with a rolled-up left pant leg and a pair of large boots. He has a speaker sticking out from the middle of his chest. He's also wearing gloves covered in lines of ink.

Personality

The Projectionist is a mute, hostile brute that kills everything surrounding him without much though, yet he shows some intelligence, due to fact he has a goal of collecting hearts and anyone trying to take them will cause his anger to show up.

Abilities

The Projectionist has the ability to reset the cycle if he entered in possession of "The End" reel and projected it in front of the Ink Demon, he also seems to have the ability to know when someone takes one of his ink heart.

Gameplay

Strategy

Bendy and the Ink Machine

In Chapter 3, at level 14, the objective is to find and collect 5 ink hearts that are located in dead Butcher Gang members scattered around the Projectionists' Offices while avoiding his sights. If spotted, the player needs to either get out and run back to the elevator or hide in Little Miracle Stations.

In Chapter 4, at the Maintenance section in Storage 9, there is a staircase that leads to the upper floor on the left side that's blocked by a lift. To access it, the player needs to head on over to the right side of the area for a switch with a sign that says "LIFE CONTROL" that will raise the lift up that will grant access of the upper floor but in doing so alerts the Projectionist to the location. The player can either run back and hide or progress up at the upper floor, once on the next floor the final switch is on the left side and flipping it temporarily shuts off all the lights within the room. Once all the lights returned, exit the room but immediately upon exiting the Projectionist will give chase, hide in the little miracle station to complete the objective.

Bendy: Lone Wolf

Going into the Abyss, the Projectionist will immediately begin to hunt down Boris, to avoid being spotted the player needs to be aware of their surroundings as his appearance can blend in with the darkness and ink of the level. The player also needs to pay attention to sound cues as the sound of his projector is at a deeper pitch then the sounds of other projectors throughout the level. If the Projectionist is close, either run the other direction or hide in little miracle stations.

In Bendy and the Ink Machine, the Projectionist in Chapter 3 has the highest amount of health out of other enemies, with a total of +22, but his health was reduced to +5 in Chapter 4.
